Texas Critter Crusaders will be holding our first ever “Spay-ghetti Dinner & Dance” on March 21, 2020 from 5 – 10 p.m. The evening will start with Yappy-hour at 5 p.m . and then dinner will be served from 6-7 p.m. Following dinner, we’ll have a ton of fun dancing the night away to the tunes of Sterling Country with a raffle drawing half-way through. You will be able to purchase beer, wine and soft drinks from the bar.

Tickets are $20 for adults/$10 for kids if purchased in advance, or $25 for adults/$15 for kids at the door. Part of your ticket purchase is your first entry into the main raffle where we will have some really nice prizes! Additional raffle entries will be offered at the event. There is the possibility of a separate “special item” raffle that we will announce later. If you just can’t handle this much fun, we will have to-go only meal tickets for $10.

I’m Lolly and I’m your PET OF THE WEEK! That’s right. The humans say I’m sweet as sugar, so they’ve given me this honor. How nice, right? First they give me a place to stay when I’m homeless and now they give me an award! I’m grateful, but I’m ready to move on and sweeten the life with my own forever family. Maybe it can be you? Special senior dog looking for loving hospice home

November is “Adopt a Senior” month and we’ve got a special senior located at the City Of Taylor, Texas Animal Shelter looking for his forever family. His name is Sully. He was found at the tennis courts in Murphy Park and has been at the shelter since July 19. The fur on his neck was worn like he had a collar on at some point so he definitely belonged to someone. Sadly, nobody claimed him.

Sully began to show signs of an illness that included weight loss and coughing, as well as a fainting episode. So the shelter staff reached out to us for help and we had Graef Veterinary Hospital check him out. Of course he’s heart worm positive, as most dogs that enter the shelter are. But his cough was being caused by fluid accumulation in his lungs; something similar to pneumonia. They also found that he has a heart murmur and an enlarged heart. It’s hard to tell if those issues are caused by the heartworm infection or if they were pre-existing conditions since there is no way to tell how many worms a dog is infected with unless you subject them to open heart surgery which he is definitely not healthy enough for. Xrays also revealed that his abdomen was filled with nothing but gas which would explain why he was losing weight despite being fed a very healthy serving every day. No blockages though, so food was basically going right through him.

After consulting with the vet we came to the conclusion that Sully was not a candidate for neuter surgery or heartworm treatment at this time. All we could do was treat him for the fluid in his lungs with antibiotics. Our best guess on his age is between 10 and 15 years. While at the shelter, he has become increasingly stressed. To the point that while he is definitely potty trained (keeps his kennel spotless) and enjoys being indoors, he HATES having to go back in his kennel.

BUT after changing his food to a more digestion friendly formula, he’s begun to put some of that weight back on! He’s not done yet! SULLY WANTS TO LIVE HIS BEST LIFE!

Here is a short video of Sully. We are trying to find a hospice home for him ASAP. He is very people friendly, housebroken and loves walks/car rides. He has a bad heart and lungs due to heart worms and advanced age.

If you can give Sully an inside home that is somewhat calm (he faints when he gets overly excited) where he can live out his life, please contact the Taylor Animal Shelter at 512-352-5483 or send us a message. A meet and greet with your dog(s) prior to him going home with you is required as well as proof of spay, no exceptions. Once he’s settled in after a month or two, we’ll have him re-evaluated at our vet (no cost to you) to see if there has been any change in his prognosis. Since this is a situation where he likely won’t be able to undergo any treatment for his conditions, Texas Critter Crusaders will be there to help with any medical costs his health may require.

Please share this so we can get Sully out of the shelter for how ever much time he has left.

You can purchase a bisque food dish for your pet and raise money for Texas Critter Crusaders to help them support the local Taylor Animal Shelter.

Join us on the sidewalk next to Curb Side Coffee House on a pretty Texas evening. You can purchase a blank pet dish and decorate it for your pet and donate funds to Texas Critter Crusaders.

Dishes:

$20-Small, 1 cup or less, good for cats and small dogs
$25-Medium, 3 cups, good for medium pups
$30-Large, 6 cups, great for big dogs

You’ll decorate the surface, put your pet’s name on, we’ll fire the dish and have it ready for pickup in a few days at Art Off Center on Potter’s Alley.

Free Microchip & Low Cost Vaccine Clinic on Nov. 2, 2019

Join us on November 2, 2019 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Murphy Park, 1600 Veterans Dr, Taylor, Texas 76574 , for a free microchip and low-cost vaccine clinic!

The Texas Critter Crusaders are having a FREE** microchipping and low-cost vaccine clinic on November 2, 2019 at the lower level of Murphy Park Pavilion located at 1600 Veteran’s Dr, Taylor, Texas. Bring your pets (dogs and cats only, please) from 9AM to Noon and get your pet micro chipped. We are teaming up with Dr. Shane Daigle from Graef Vet Hospital to offer low cost vaccines from 9AM to 11AM.

Pets that are micro chipped are more likely to be reunited with their owners if they go missing than pets that are not chipped. All pets must be contained in a carrier or on a leash.

An update on Scooter!

Update on Scooter! His surgery went well but he will spend the weekend at Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness for a little added care before he goes home on Monday. We want to thank every one of you that help us to get treatment for the pets in our community when they need it most. We could not do this without you all. Thanks to everyone that shared, donated and prayed for sweet Scooter! Thank you so so much!

This is Scooter. He was found last night after being hit by a car on HWY 79 / 2nd St. City Of Taylor, Texas Animal Shelter ACO picked him up, made him as comfortable as possible over night, and took him to Graef Veterinary Hospital this morning to be checked out. His leg is broken and will require pins and a plate to repair it. This is not a surgery they are able to do locally. While we were figuring out our next move to save Scooter’s leg, his owner was found. Yay, what a relief! Except he’s going through a really rough patch himself and needs our help. Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness is willing to help us repair Scooter’s leg (as opposed to amputating it). His owner is desperate to help him as he’s all he’s got right now. You guys have always come through for the animals in our community in a big way and we’re hoping you can help us rally for Scooter now. Any amount helps and, as always, please share far and wide so we can raise the funds to help Scooter keep his leg. Thanks in advance!

It all started when I lost my momma. It was a long time ago but still seems like yesterday. Then I stayed in a shelter and then with different foster folks, but it’s time for my FOREVER friend…a place to finally call HOME. I’m not getting any younger here, people. I’m what you might call a “mature” woman. I don’t like the word senior ’cause it doesn’t do me justice. I’m super spunky and young at heart! I love to play with people big and small. Guess what else I love?! BELLY RUBS!!! I could lay around for days as long as you rub my ol’ tumtum. I’m great with adults, kids, and even most dogs. July 4th Pet Safety Tips For You and Your Dogs and Cats

It’s that time of year – picnics, family, food and fireworks! It’s typically fun for all – unless you are a family pet. While many of us consider our pets to be part of the family, and we want to include them in our fun, some activities can be frightening, dangerous or even fatal to our beloved pets. Keep in mind that a dog’s sense of hearing is more than four times that of a human, and a cat can hear 1.6 octaves above the range of a human – so if it is loud for you, it can be extremely frightening for you pet. They don’t understand what is happening and will try to get away by any means – digging, climbing, running – even injuring themselves in the process. To Recap, Here are eight safety tips for this July 4th

Be sure your pet is wearing up-to-date and visible ID tag on his or her collar at all times, and consider microchipping.
Take a current photo of your pet just in case.
Exercise your dog early in the day before the party begins.
During cookouts, ask guests to play with your dog away from the flames.
Keep charcoal, fireworks, sparklers and glow sticks far away from curious canines and felines.
Keep dog treats on hand for those who want to give your pet food.
Leave your dog at home with a frozen stuffed treat during the fireworks.
If your dog is afraid of loud noises, leave gentle music playing to cover the fireworks.

Zumba for the animals: Tons of fun and a success for the critters

A huge thank you to April Green and everyone at HT Fitness in Taylor for showing the shelter pets at the Taylor Animal Shelter, Taylor, Texas, some serious support today at the Zumbathon fundraiser! Tons of people got their Zumba on, and stopped by to donate to help us raise money to help the animals at the Taylor Animal Shelter. April was an inspiring, energetic and upbeat host, and if you haven’t met April yet, you need to stop by HT Fitness and meet her – and sign up for one of her Zumba classes! You are sure to have tons of fun and get a great workout.

Proceeds go to help the animals at the Taylor Animal Shelter. We’ve recently been able to spay and neuter 4 more dogs and cats, and help another cat with a severe infection. Every dog and cat that is spayed, neutered, heart-worm negative and up to date on shots is eligible to attend adoption events, which helps increase their chances for adoption. In addition, only dogs that are fully vetted are eligible for other special programs such as training, work programs and more, that will help them find quality forever homes.

With your help, we can make that happen for all of the animals that come into the shelter, AND help others in need when sudden and unexpected injuries or illnesses come up.
